Dr. Yoshida is Kioko's uncle who has decided that she would come and stay in his household so he can ensure she achieves a successful career.
Akio shunned the life his family had made for themselves as simple lowerclass workers and sought a better life, finally achieving the status of a well respected doctor.
Akio has never looked back and after his parents passed away he ceased all communications with his brother.
Suddenly out of the blue he shows up at the house and states that the life they were living was a poor and meager one- one that a bright girl like Kioko should not have to suffer.
With much trepidation her parents reluctantly agreed that he could support her more than her handi-capped father could. (Isn't that sad?? lol )
